Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival
03/12/07: Not too early to reserve Sunflower VIP tickets
With an awesome celebration being planned for Clarksdales 20th Sunflower River Blues Festival August 10, 11, and 12, its not too early to make VIP reservations, say co-chairmen John Sherman and Melville Tills.

"We had a tremendous demand for tickets under our VIP tent last year," Sherman says.

VIP tickets ($250 each), he explains, provide admission and seating for four guests beneath the VIP tent next to the main stage.

Included are complimentary beverages and also invitations to the annual "Grits, Greens, and Barbecue" supper held Thursday night in Clarksdales historic district before the festival opens.

The traditional supper of cheese grits, turnip greens, barbecue, and watermelon was developed years ago to introduce sister city visitors from Notodden, Norway, to Southern cuisine.

Last years party was recorded by California filmmakers for their "Touring the U.S.A" documentary that is airing currently in the Middle East.

According to Sherman and Tillis, the VIP tent was initiated to boost fund-raising for the free festival that is staged entirely by volunteers.

"Our association is a non-profit 501 c 3 organization, and all donations are used to pay performers and production costs," says Tillis.

He says Sunflower Blues Association members are committed to keeping the festival free.

"Mississippi Delta blues began in our hometown, and we want everyone to come out and enjoy our heritage," continues Tillis.

Donations and requests for VIP tickets should be sent to the Sunflower River Blues Association, Box 1562, Clarksdale, MS 38614.
