Tamale mobile boosts Sunflower Fest

Clarksdale’s renowned tamale mobile manned by Oscar Orsby (center) opened his annual publicity campaign for the August Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival over the weekend in the New World District. Orsby, who has a reserved location on the corner of Yazoo and Martin Luther King Blvd. complete with electrical hookup, has been featured in the Atlanta Journal and other national publications. Admiring the new rig and festival poster publicizing its tribute to bluesman Sam Carr are Orsby’s son, Otis Orsby (left) and Charles Edwards. ‘When some of my customers see this new truck and don’t see me, they think someone has taken over my space,’ he said. ‘But I retired the old rig; everything else is the same.’ The free Sunflower Festival will be held Aug. 11-13 in downtown Clarksdale.
